A Little More About Myself
As A Designer:
I would describe my work as a mix of elegant "fanciness" and 1950s cereal boxes.
I like to use the Adobe Suite, a little Wacom tablet, and my good old sketchbook.
Whenever I work with a client, I make sure to keep things professional yet casual. I always keep my client up-to-date with the progress and process of the project and, in the end, when everything's all tidy and finished, I try to give them a grand high-five.
And when I'm not working with anyone, I just keep on designing! I've got a sketchbook full of mock logos, and loads of Illustator and Photoshop files of mock webpages, album designs, and ads. I also try to keep up with socializing, networking, blogging, and buying posters of vintage ads & posters.
Story:
Like a child of the 90's should, I was transfixed by cartoons. But oddly enough, I was also interested by logos and "letters" (I hadn't even conceived of the word "typography" as a kid). As I grew, these mixed with new interests in print layouts, album covers, films both fresh & aged, and old advertistments.
For my first three years of high school, I went to Sunset High in Portland. There, along with the normal stuff high schoolers are taught, I learned the basics of coding and graphic design. In total, I took 3 design classes (Graphic Design, Web Design I & II) and 3 programming classes (Visual Basic, Java, International Baccalaureate of Computer Science).
For my senior year, from the advice of a friend, I transfered to Terra Nova High - a Big Picture program school where students take control of their curriculum and create projects for themselves. This is where I began to set myself up as a freelance designer: designing websites for the school/class projects & myself, and designing the brand/indentity of the school farm. I am now currently in the process of obtaining an Associate of Arts in Graphic Design from The Art Institute of Portland.
